15.6 – Irish Chain – Challenge 6 of Project QUILTING season 15 For this challenge, I used raw edge applique  and a pre-made canvas bag. I had the bag from a previous project and it needed to be quiltified!  I was given scraps that a fellow Project Quilter was going to toss out. I free cut my scraps using only the lines on my cutting mat (no ruler).  I auditioned a few different fabrics for my mini Irish chain and placed them on Lite Steam- A-Seam 2.  I wanted to create a Spring feeling with my fabric. I think it came out really cute. Thank you for visiting! Auditioning Fabric and placing on Lite Steam- A-Seam 2

15.5 – Wearables – Challenge 5 For this challenge I was excited to make a Quilter's Coat. The pattern is by Tedi Patterson owner of   ThreadyBearCreations  on Etsy. I was hoping that we would have a clothing challenge. I was ready and waiting!  The pattern starts with a a tractional Indian Kantha Quilt. This was my third coat using this pattern it's so fun, easy and looks cool! I had ordered my fabric in January hoping I would get a chance to make a coat. I'm so happy it worked out! Thanks again for another great challenge! Thank you for visiting!

15.4 – Hourglass – Challenge 4   For this challenge I wanted to make a traditional hourglass quilt. Over the last two month, our guild lost two members. In feeling the loss of my quilting friends I just wanted to sew for this challenge and not get too stuck in ideas. For me, half the fun of project quilting is coming up new ideas for my mini quilts. I didn't have the mental energy this round (or last round since I made a rug mug of last resort).   I went on the search for a quick way to make hourglass blocks and I found a Missouri Star tutorial . the next step was to hunt down some charm packs.  My quilt is inspired by 1840's quilts the fabrics range from 1840's-1870's.  I'm an American Quilt Study Group (AQSG) member and I had lots of photos to reference. I used Moda's Regency Sussex and Susanna's Scraps I love reproductions (I guess that's a play on the sex and the hourglass theme!). I had Moda charm packs in my stash and started making blocks. I wan

15.3 – Inside Out  I made a mug rug of last resort! This is my variation of Lori Holt's "Hattie" chicken from her Chicken Salad templates. I had planned on not doing raw edge applique for this challenge but here we go! Last night, I went to my bag of fused scraps (most of it is trash! Next project is to toss it out!) I used my serger to finish my edges instead of a traditional finish of binding or facing. This was my nod to things we don't usually see on the outside. I wasn't going to enter but I'm happy I stuck with it!

Project Quilting Season 15!  15.1 – Bird House Hello!  I'm excited to join in another season of Project Quilting this will make my 4th year participating. I hope you enjoy my first challenge for 2024. There's Room for Everyone! By Jodie Solorio This was the first time I've made a wholecloth quilt and it was the first time I've used fabric paints instead of applique. As I was brainstorming ideas with my quilt friends it was suggested to keep the flowers in black and white. I thought this was a great idea as it would emphasize the birdhouse. I added several more birds and I found the perfect binding!   "There's Room for Everyone!" By Jodie Solorio This month out guild hosted a presentation and a workshop with Spanish Quilter Cristina Arcengui Bono.  I was lucky enough to attend her workshop, "Tea At Five". I had a fantastic time learning via Zoom.  After the workshop, I decided to make my challenge quilt, applying the techniques I learned earlier t

14.6 – Conquer a Fear – Challenge 6 of Project QUILTING Season 14                                                                A Quilted Jacket  For this challenge I decided to make a quilted jacket. I found the pattern in McCall's Quilting the January/February 2023 issue. It seemed pretty straight forward. Making clothes is so out of my wheelhouse. My previous attempts at making clothing are Halloween costumes! I'm not comfortable with sewing something to fit a body- especially my body. I thought I would face the fear and give this jacket a try.                                                        I used a wool blend for the body of the coat. I purchased bias binding to finished the edges. I also decided to change the sleeve shape into a wide cuff. I had a lot of fun quilting on wool and I used my pounce pad and stencils for the Ginkgo leaf pattern                                                                                           Jacket lining Thank you for reading!
