PQ Challenge 17.2 - Scads of Plaid Scrappy Monster Doll #8647 For this challenge I maximized my use of plaid fabrics. I found a plaid cheater cloth and decided to use that for the body of this little creature. Coffee was used to grunge up the fabric a bit. I appliqued wool for the face. The eyes are scraps of fabric scraps and buttons.    I made a little cape with machine embroidered words, " ICE is bad for your health" and appliqued it to a piece of wool. I stitched it to the scrappy monsters back. Buttons were used to attach the arms to make them moveable.   Auditioning button eyes was really fun and my family enjoyed giving me input. I stuffed the body and tiny arms and legs with poly fiber fill and a chop stick. I traced a large Tums container as a general shape and made a pattern.

PQ 17.1 Challenge A Clean Slate Thanks you Persimon Dreams! Kim and Trish I'm happy to join you in Season 17 of Project Quilting. "Cloud Dancer" and the idea of a "clean slate" was a tough first challenge.   I got a new sewing machine for Christmas and I decided to give my decorative stiches a try. This was the first time that I've used negative space or the unquilted areas as the main focus of a quilt.  The words look puffy like clouds. I'm happy with how my quilt came out. It's 10"x18".   I used white fabric and high loft poly batting for this project. Washi tape was used to spell out the words "NO ICE". I quilted all around the tape creating the words in the negative space.

16.6 – Button it Up – Challenge 6 of Project QUILTING This was a left over block that my fellow PQ Nancy I. gave me. I  loved the little blue hand appliqued basket but thought that it's tiny size (3" or so) was unseal for the size of the block (12" X12 "}. I really wanted to try to make the button spider and I love it! I wish I should have used more colorful buttons.  I've had this book in my stash and wanted to try some of the stitches! I have a steep learning curve when it comes to embroidery. My collection of buttons. Deciding which block to use for this weeks project. Thank you for visiting!

16.5 – Follow Your Arrow – Challenge 5 of Project QUILTING season 16      I chose to make a weathervane for our Follow Your Arrow challenge. Sometimes it feels like life just sends things spinning! I love bunnies they make me smile. I found a public domain image and I decided to add the roof top. I pieced a sky background and traced the image onto Flexie Fuse using my light table. Thank you for visiting !

16.4 – Birthstone – Challenge 4 of Project QUILTING season 16 For my 4th challenge I made a needle book. I'm a March baby and I love the color Aquamarine my birthstone but for some reason I could not find my aqua fabrics! I started to mine my stash and I found this aquamarine fabric I really love!  The inspiration for this project came from You Tube and the fact that  I had all of my hand sewing needles and supplies were just rolling around in a zipper pouch. It was overwhelming!   I watched a few tutorials one by Minki Kim another by Lori Holt and Stitchin Post  I used bits and pieces from each tutorial to make my own needle book .  I'm super happy with my result and after filling my needle book I decided I would like more pockets!   Cover and needle page Time to fill my needle book! Inside pockets Gathering supplies Fabric pulls Thank you for  visiting!

16.3 – Common Blocks – Challenge 3 of Project QUILTING season 16 I had so much fun with this challenge! I worked with my fellow Project Quilter and friend Nancy I. together we went through Nancy's collection of "left overs" or "orphan" blocks. We started with piles of blocks in various stages of construction and we worked together bouncing ideas off of one another.  We tested colors and block layouts. It was like working on a puzzle. It was a challenge to figure out how the blocks fit together. We couldn't believe that we finished our tops on day one! It was a wonderful day! Thank you Nancy for coming up with a great idea of using leftovers! I set out to make a blue quilt but I ended up with a purple and pink quilt. I love it! I'm spotting Minnie Mouse's bow and shoes. I found Peter Rabbit yesterday when I was binding! There are little orange crabs.  It is such a pleasure to be surrounded by a truly scrappy quilt-I was so cozy under my new quilt! S...

16.2 – Ombre – Challenge 2 of Project QUILTING season 16 This weeks challenge Ombre stumped me. I would usually use ombre as background for a collage quilt or something like that. This year my goal was more piecing. I had several false starts for this challenge.  There was a very cool paper dolls idea that friends helped me brainstorm, another quilting friend gave her ombre fabric to work with. despite all of the support. I couldn't pull it together this week. I really loved the diamond shape and I thought that had a lot of visual interest. I should have stopped there. My challenge is an improved table runner 21:X36"? I loved the wild fabrics and that's about it!  Thank you for Visiting
